Stage 1: become reliably competent
Complete the learn to DJ and be able to set up, cue, gain-stage, recover from mistakes and play for an hour without depending on one rehearsed transition sequence.
Stage 2: build proof
Record focused mixes and small live sets that match the kind of work you want. A club-oriented techno mix is poor proof for a wedding inquiry; a polished open-format party mix may be irrelevant to an underground promoter.
Stage 3: take low-risk opportunities
House parties, community events, shared bills, warm-up slots, small venue nights and assisting established event DJs can create evidence without placing you immediately in a high-stakes wedding or headline slot.
Stage 4: professionalize
Use written scope, deposits, invoices, arrival/load-in plans, backups and post-event follow-up. Reliability is a career skill.
