About Deko-ze
Michael Babb, better known as Deko-ze, is one of Toronto’s longest-running electronic DJs. After building his early career in Western Canada, he moved to Toronto in the late 1990s and became closely associated with the city’s club and after-hours culture.
His public history includes residencies and regular appearances at venues and promoters such as The Guvernment, Comfort Zone, CODA and Fly, along with international bookings. He has also worked as a producer, radio host, promoter and label co-owner.
For someone trying to understand Toronto house and techno history, Deko-ze is more than a current booking option: his career links several generations of the city’s nightlife.
Toronto connection
Deko-ze’s Toronto story runs through several eras of the city’s dance floor culture. Resident Advisor documents long-running ties to The Guvernment, Comfort Zone, CODA, Fly and other Toronto-area rooms, alongside work as a producer, promoter, radio host and label co-owner.
Notable public work
He co-founded Jungle Funk Recordings with Jerome Robins, and his catalogue includes releases and remixes across house and techno labels. His longevity makes him a useful reference point for the transition from Toronto’s late-1990s/2000s superclub era into the city’s newer club ecosystem.
