How to Compare Toronto DJ Quotes
A scope-first method for comparing Toronto DJ proposals without being misled by package names or headline totals.
Put every quote into the same columns: event hours, setup, DJ/MC, ceremony, cocktail audio, sound, microphones, lighting, staffing, parking/travel, overtime, HST and cancellation terms.
Normalize the scope
Ask each provider to quote the same event timeline and spaces. If one quote includes ceremony audio and another does not, the totals are not directly comparable.
Separate service hours from onsite hours
Performance hours are not the entire workload. Early loading, room changes, sound checks and teardown can materially change complexity even when the music window is identical.
Find the line items that move the total
Public Toronto pricing pages show ceremony audio, overtime, uplighting, MC services, extra speakers and multi-room requirements as common separate items. Some companies bundle these instead.
Check tax and logistics
Some published Toronto prices include tax, while others explicitly add HST. Downtown parking/logistics and travel can also be separate. Compare final expected totals, not pre-tax stickers.
Do not convert price into a quality score
After scope is normalized, evaluate actual event experience, communication, samples, planning process, backup equipment and fit. A higher price is not proof of better service.
