DJ Contract Checklist for Toronto Events
A practical checklist for reviewing a DJ agreement before paying a deposit.
A DJ contract should make the service scope, payment, timing, cancellation, overtime and responsibilities clear.
- Names and event details
- Exact services
- Payment schedule
- Cancellation and overtime
Parties and identities
The contract should identify the client, service provider and event accurately. If a company is booking a specific DJ, the agreement should say whether that performer is guaranteed or may be substituted.
Scope and timing
List performance times, setup access, rooms served, MC duties, ceremony coverage, equipment, lighting and teardown expectations. “DJ package” is too vague when expectations differ.
Money terms
Confirm deposit, balance due date, taxes, travel, parking, overtime and add-on pricing. Cancellation and rescheduling rules should be readable before money changes hands.
Risk and responsibility
Clarify what happens if the DJ is ill, equipment fails, the venue delays access or weather affects an outdoor event. For legal interpretation of a contract, consult an Ontario lawyer rather than relying on a checklist.
