DJ Contracts & Booking Terms
The issues a Toronto DJ agreement should address before money, equipment and event expectations become ambiguous.
A DJ contract should make the agreed scope visible: who the parties are, date/location, performance and setup times, services/equipment, price and payment schedule, cancellation/rescheduling, overtime, client/venue responsibilities, access, and what happens when circumstances change.
Define the service
State performance hours, setup time, ceremony/secondary spaces, MC duties, microphones, sound, lighting and any subcontractors. “DJ services” is too vague for a complex event.
Define money and timing
State total price, deposit/retainer terms, due dates, accepted payment methods, tax treatment if applicable, overtime rate and what triggers extra charges.
Define access and venue responsibilities
Clarify load-in access, parking, power, weather protection for outdoor setups, safe performance space and who is responsible for venue approvals or licenses.
Plan for change
Address postponement, cancellation, illness/emergency, equipment failure, venue changes and force-majeure-type situations with wording appropriate to your business and jurisdiction. Use a qualified lawyer for legal drafting.
