What kind of place is Standard Time?

Standard Time combines a hard-loft venue with a listening-lounge feel. The venue says its weekends feature underground electronic artists from Toronto, North America and overseas.

The exact sound changes by event. House, techno, electro, experimental club music and other underground electronic styles all appear in the calendar.

Why it matters to Toronto DJs

Standard Time is useful to follow if you want to understand the more independent side of Toronto electronic music. Its bills often mix touring artists with Toronto DJs, promoters and collectives, so the calendar can be a good way to discover local names as well as international guests.

The space

Second floor, 165 Geary Avenue, Unit A — beside Blood Brothers, on the strip the Star has been calling Toronto’s coolest street. Industrial loft: hardwood, brick, a custom sound system the room is built around, a bar, and a record shop in the same footprint. They also run Bar Standard as a quieter listening-bar service inside the building.

Private buyouts exist (the venue points people at @165events). Capacities quoted on vendor listings sit around 70 seated / 150 standing, with some write-ups going as high as 200 depending on layout. Treat those as “ask the room,” not a guarantee. This is a DJ-forward room. A wedding DJ who has never played a listening bar will feel the difference in volume, booth height and how long people actually stay on the floor.
